Jaipur, 20-02-2024: Sonia Gandhi, the stalwart Congress leader, has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious political career. Alongside her, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chunnilal Garasiya and Madan Rathore also secured their positions in the Upper House from the state, signaling a smooth electoral process. This outcome was confirmed by Assembly Secretary Mahaveer Prasad Sharma, who stated that Tuesday marked the deadline for withdrawing nominations, and with no other contenders in the fray, the trio clinched their seats unopposed.
For Sonia Gandhi, this marks her debut term in the Rajya Sabha after serving an impressive five terms as a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament. Her journey in Indian politics has been remarkable, with her initial entry into the Parliament dating back to 1999, coinciding with her assumption of the presidency of the Indian National Congress.
