Speaker’s Election Scheduled for November 4, Assembly Session to Commence in Srinagar
Jammu, Oct 22: In a significant development, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has summoned the Legislative Assembly to convene in Srinagar on November 4. The session will begin with the Lieutenant Governor’s address, marking a crucial moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
In a formal notification issued today, it was announced that the election for the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly will also take place on the same day. The election is scheduled for 10:30 AM, followed by the Lieutenant Governor’s address to the Assembly at 11:30 AM. The event is expected to draw considerable attention as it will set the tone for upcoming legislative discussions and priorities in the Union Territory.
Currently, senior National Conference leader Mubarak Gul has been serving as the Pro-tem Speaker, a temporary role he has held since the reconstitution of the Assembly. His tenure has primarily focused on facilitating proceedings until a permanent Speaker is elected. The upcoming election is seen as a pivotal moment in solidifying the legislative process in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the context of its evolving political structure post-revocation of Article 370.
The Speaker’s role is not only crucial in maintaining the decorum and smooth functioning of the Assembly but also in guiding legislative debates on pressing issues facing the Union Territory. Political observers believe that the election will be a key indicator of party alignments and the legislative agenda moving forward.
The Lieutenant Governor’s address will further outline the government’s priorities and strategies for development, governance, and regional stability, amidst the backdrop of continuing demands for statehood restoration and other significant political issues.
As the session approaches, all eyes will be on November 4, with the Speaker’s election and the Lieutenant Governor’s address expected to set the course for the political and administrative future of Jammu and Kashmir.
