Sports Minister Hails World Cup-Winning Blind Women Cricketers as National Inspiration
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya lauds the team’s undefeated run in the inaugural Blind T20 World Cup as a source of inspiration for the nation.
New Delhi, Nov 27: The Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, felicitated the members of the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team at his residence on Tuesday following their historic triumph in the inaugural Blind Twenty20 World Cup.
The team defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the final held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday and remained undefeated throughout the tournament, which featured six participating nations: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the United States of America. This landmark victory comes shortly after the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s first ever ICC Cricket World Cup win on home soil.
Hailing the achievement, Dr. Mandaviya said, “The Indian women’s blind cricket team has done the nation proud. Their victory is a huge inspiration for both specially-abled sportspersons and anyone striving to bring glory to the country. With their willpower and resilience, they achieved the unthinkable. I wish all members the very best for their future endeavours. I urge each of you to continue putting in your best in upcoming tournaments the entire nation and government stand with you.”
Team captain Deepika TC expressed gratitude, saying, “I feel extremely happy and honoured that our Hon’ble Sports Minister invited us to his residence for this felicitation. Interacting with him was truly encouraging. His words will motivate not only us but also more women from the blind community to take up sports as a career and make the country proud through hard work and determination.”
