SRINAGAR, Nov 30: Zahir Abdullah and Zamir Abdullah, the sons of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, today asserted that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir is not a privilege granted by the central government but a fundamental right of the people. They called on the government in Delhi to provide clarity on when the statehood would be restored to the region.
Speaking to reporters, the two brothers emphasized that the restoration of statehood is a crucial issue for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and cannot be treated as a mere concession. Zamir Abdullah stressed, “Statehood is not a favor from Delhi; it is the constitutional right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The government must provide clear and transparent communication regarding its intentions to restore it.”
The Abdullahs, who interacted with the youth in the region, discussed a range of political issues, with a particular focus on the demand for statehood restoration. They expressed the need for the central government to acknowledge the concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and address the ongoing uncertainty about the region’s political future.
