Surya Kiran Air Show to Dazzle Meerut Skies on September 19–20
Nine Hawk Mk-132 aircraft will showcase precision formations, loops, barrel rolls and other aerial manoeuvres on September 19 and 20.
MEERUT (Uttar Pradesh), September 18: The Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team is set to stage a spectacular two-day aerial display over Meerut on September 19 and 20, with nine Hawk Mk-132 aircraft participating in the event, organisers said.
The Surya Kiran air show in Meerut will be held at the New Integrated Township in Mohiuddinpur, located in the Paratapur area. The aerobatic team will demonstrate a series of precision formations and manoeuvres, including loops, barrel rolls, inverted flying and the distinctive ‘DNA’ manoeuvre.
Officials said the close and highly synchronised flying of the aircraft is expected to be one of the main attractions for spectators attending the event.
The display will also feature a local connection, with three squadron leaders associated with Meerut — Aman Goyal, Rahul Singh and Sharad Goyal among the members of the aerobatic team.
During the performance, the aircraft will create saffron, white and green smoke trails across the sky. The tricolour effect will be produced using indigenous smoke pods developed by the Indian Air Force’s Base Repair Depot in Nashik.
The district administration and event organisers are making extensive preparations at the venue to accommodate visitors. Arrangements include spectator seating, an open pavilion, designated entry routes, food facilities, security measures and crowd-management systems.
Separate arrangements are also being made for VIP and VVIP guests expected to attend the event.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Vajpayee said he had submitted a proposal for organising an air show in Meerut on May 13. According to him, the proposal received approval on September 8.
Vajpayee also said the event would mark the Surya Kiran team’s second aerial performance in Uttar Pradesh, following its earlier show in Lucknow.
Meerut District Magistrate V K Singh said the district administration was taking all necessary steps to ensure proper arrangements for the event and the smooth management of spectators and guests.
The two day programme is expected to provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to witness the Indian Air Force’s precision flying and aerobatic capabilities at close range.
