Tamil Nadu Polls 2026: M.K. Stalin Says ‘Three-Language Formula’ Is Hidden Push for Hindi Imposition

Tamil Nadu CM questions fairness, resources, and federal spirit behind new CBSE curriculum framework

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Saturday strongly criticised the latest curriculum framework introduced by Central Board of Secondary Education, alleging that the three language policy is a disguised attempt to promote Hindi in non-Hindi speaking states.

Referring to the framework aligned with National Education Policy 2020, Stalin said the move goes beyond academic reform and reflects a deliberate strategy of linguistic centralisation. He argued that the policy unfairly prioritises Hindi while sidelining the country’s linguistic diversity.

The Chief Minister claimed that, in practice, the policy would make Hindi learning compulsory for students in southern states. He raised concerns over the lack of reciprocity, questioning whether students in Hindi-speaking regions would be required to learn southern or other regional languages.

Stalin also criticised the Centre for failing to ensure adequate Tamil language representation in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, pointing to shortages of Tamil teachers. He termed the policy approach inconsistent and lacking genuine commitment to linguistic inclusivity.

Highlighting implementation challenges, he questioned the availability of trained teachers, infrastructure, and funding required to execute such a large-scale reform. He warned that the policy could widen regional disparities in education and employment by favouring Hindi-speaking students.

Emphasising future readiness, Stalin said students should instead be equipped with skills in emerging fields like artificial intelligence and digital industries, rather than being burdened with rigid language requirements.

Calling the move a threat to federal principles, he stated that India’s strength lies in its diversity, not uniformity. He also sought clarity from opposition leaders in the state, asking whether they would support or oppose what he described as linguistic imposition.
