Srinagar, Oct 12: CPI(M) leader and MLA-elect Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami voiced strong criticism on Saturday over the recent orders issued by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir concerning appointments and service matters, just ahead of the formation of the new legislature and cabinet. The J&K government, in a move on Friday, amended the Civil Services Rules to establish a Services Selection Board specifically for recruiting non-gazetted staff.
Tarigami expressed concern that these actions undermine the authority and importance of the forthcoming legislature and cabinet, both of which are expected to take shape shortly. In a detailed statement, he highlighted that Jammu and Kashmir has been under central rule since 2018, questioning why such significant orders were not implemented earlier if they were deemed necessary.
The CPI(M) leader further raised concerns about the timing of the LG’s decisions, arguing that these critical service matters should be left for the incoming elected representatives to decide, in accordance with democratic principles. He described the new orders as “unwarranted” and called for their immediate withdrawal, emphasizing the need to honor the democratic transition as Jammu and Kashmir prepares to establish its new legislative assembly and government.
