Tarun Chugh Takes a Swipe at Opposition Over J&K Polls, Stresses ECI’s Role in Election Announcements
29-09-2023 : The BJP’s National General Secretary and In-Charge of Jammu and Kashmir, Tarun Chugh, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding elections in the region. Chugh took the opportunity to criticize opposition parties for their vocal stance on the matter, emphasizing that the responsibility of announcing the election schedule lies with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Chugh highlighted that the BJP is fully prepared for all types of elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He also raised a pertinent question directed at the Abdullah, Mufti, and Nehru families, calling on them to provide clarity on why they failed to revise voter lists over the past several decades. This query underscores the importance of ensuring accurate and up-to-date voter lists, a fundamental aspect of the electoral process.
The BJP leader pointed out that the revision of voter lists has indeed taken place, and objections have been solicited as part of this process. He affirmed his confidence in the Election Commission of India, stating that it will make the necessary decisions and subsequently announce the election schedule. This reiterates the principle that the ECI is the ultimate authority responsible for the timing and conduct of elections.
Tarun Chugh did not shy away from critiquing opposition parties, particularly those that had chosen to boycott Panchayat and Block Development Council (BDC) polls in the past. He accused these parties of employing a boycott policy to secure power, only to now offer unsolicited advice on the matter of holding elections. This critique underscores the importance of consistency and participation in the democratic process.
