Tragedy Strikes in J&K: Tragic Taxi Accident Claims Four Lives and Injures One in Doda District
29-05-2023 : Tragedy struck in Doda district as a taxi plunged into a deep gorge, claiming the lives of four individuals and leaving one person injured. The unfortunate incident occurred during the evening hours on a hilly stretch of road. The ill-fated vehicle, a Swift Desire, was en route from Bhalla to Jammu when it veered off the Batote-Doda road, tumbling down the steep slope and coming to rest in the Raggi Nallah rivulet, nearly 200 meters below.
Upon receiving news of the mishap, authorities from the nearby Police Post swiftly responded, collaborating with local residents to initiate a rescue operation. All four individuals who had tragically lost their lives and the lone survivor were promptly transported to a hospital. At the time of reporting, the registration number of the taxi remained unknown.
SDPO Doda Headquarters, Jaswant Singh, when contacted, conveyed that the investigation into the accident was still underway, and no definitive conclusions could be drawn at that moment regarding the causes. SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom provided the identities of the deceased victims: Radha Devi, 56, wife of Om Parshad, a resident of Gajoth Bhalla; Ved Parkesh, 65, son of Amar Nath, a resident of Betholi Bhalla; Om Parshad, 60, son of Amar Nath, a resident of Gajoth Bhalla; and Raj Kumari, 56, wife of Ram Rattan, a resident of Badasoo. The injured survivor was identified as Mohd Aslam, 25, son of Abdul Gani, hailing from Dhansal, Jammu, and he was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
