UGC Urges Universities to Speed Up Admissions Through Common Counselling

Higher education institutions advised to complete admission rounds on schedule to avoid delays in the academic calendar.

New Delhi, Aug 03 : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has advised universities and higher educational institutions to accelerate the admission process through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) counselling mechanism, ensuring that the new academic session begins without unnecessary delays.

In its latest communication, the higher education regulator asked institutions to adhere to the prescribed timelines for counselling, document verification and seat allocation. The commission stressed that timely admissions would help maintain uniformity across universities and reduce uncertainty for students awaiting final allotments.

The UGC also encouraged universities to keep applicants informed about counselling schedules, vacant seats and admission deadlines through official portals. Institutions have been advised to strengthen grievance redressal systems so that student concerns are addressed promptly during the admission process.

Officials said coordinated counselling and faster seat allocation would improve transparency while helping students make informed choices without missing opportunities due to overlapping admission schedules.

The commission reiterated that institutions should ensure a smooth transition into the new academic session by completing all admission-related formalities within the notified timeframe. The advisory is expected to benefit thousands of students seeking undergraduate admissions through the national entrance examination system.
