UP Excise Department Achieves 91.46% of Revenue Target by December
Excise revenue touches Rs 39,695.73 crore in FY 2025–26 enforcement drive leads to major seizures and arrests
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has achieved 91.46 per cent of its revenue target for the current financial year by December, with collections reaching Rs 39,695.73 crore, Minister of State for Excise and Prohibition (Independent Charge) Nitin Agarwal said on Tuesday.
The revenue collected so far in FY 2025–26 is Rs 5,151.64 crore higher, or 14.91 per cent more, than the Rs 34,544.09 crore collected during the same period in the previous financial year, the minister said.
According to Agarwal, the state’s revenue target till December 2025 was Rs 43,400 crore, of which more than 91 per cent has already been achieved, indicating strong growth in excise collections.
December collections show sharp rise
In December 2025 alone, the Excise Department collected Rs 4,551.62 crore, registering a 9.90 per cent increase over the Rs 4,141.75 crore collected in December 2024.
Crackdown on illicit liquor intensifies
The minister said that sustained enforcement efforts contributed significantly to improved compliance. During routine enforcement operations in December 2025, the department registered 9,679 cases related to the manufacture, sale, and smuggling of illicit liquor.
During this period, officials recovered 2.43 lakh litres of illicit liquor and narcotics, arrested 1,754 people, sent 313 offenders to jail, and seized 18 vehicles used for smuggling.
Under a special enforcement campaign conducted between December 24, 2025, and January 5, 2026, the department registered 2,871 additional cases across the state. A total of 59,823 litres of illegal liquor and narcotics were seized, 515 individuals were arrested, 95 were sent to jail, and two vehicles were confiscated.
Agarwal said the government remains committed to strengthening enforcement measures to curb illegal liquor trade while ensuring steady growth in excise revenue.
