UP Governor Anandiben approves draft of ordinance against illegal conversion

Lucknow, 28 November 2020: Governor Anandiben has approved the draft of the ordinance against the famous illegal conversion. In the Yogi cabinet, on Tuesday itself, the article of ‘UP Law against Religion Transformation Prohibition Ordinance, 2020’ was approved. It was then sent to the Governor for approval, on which he has now stamped.
As soon as the bill is approved by the Governor, it has been implemented as an ordinance in the state. After approving the proposal from the Governor, it will now have to be passed in both houses of the Legislature within six months, after which it will come into force in the state in law.
Due to this ordinance, now in the matter of mass conversion, strict action will be taken against them by canceling the registration of social organizations. For conversion from one religion to another, the prescribed authority i.e. District Magistrate has to proclaim that this conversion, falsehood, coercion, untimely, influence, oppression, coercion, greed, or any other fraudulent manner or marriage by one religion from another Religion is not for change. If the religion of the girl is changed only for marriage, then the marriage can be brought under the zero category.
In the ordinance, forcibly, lying, greed, or any other fraudulent way or conversion to marriage is considered a non-bailable offense. Because of this, a provision is being made to declare such an indictment in the court of the first-class magistrate.
For violation of the provisions, the penalty of a minimum 01 year and a maximum of 05 years shall not be less than Rs. 15,000. On the other hand, imprisonment for violation of Section-3 in respect of minor girl, woman belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe shall be for a minimum of 03 years and maximum of 10 years and the fine shall not be less than Rs 25,000. In connection with mass conversion, imprisonment shall not be less than 03 years, but may extend to 10 years and the fine shall not be less than Rs. 50,000.
According to the ordinance, the District Magistrate will have to inform two months in advance for conversion. In violation of this, a provision is being made for the punishment of 06 months to 03 years and the amount of fine, not less than Rs 10,000. (H.C.).
