Upasana Kamineni Konidela Breaks Silence on Backlash Over Egg Freezing

Ram Charan’s wife sparks nationwide conversation on women’s reproductive choices, career priorities, and the right to decide their own timelines.

Mumbai, Nov 20 : Upasana Kamineni Konidela, wife of South superstar Ram Charan and a respected entrepreneur, has once again become the centre of a heated national discussion this time around women choosing to freeze their eggs to prioritise their careers and personal milestones.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Upasana addressed the widespread conversations linked to her earlier remarks. “I’m happy to have sparked a healthy debate & thank you for your respectful responses,” she wrote, playfully adding, “Don’t forget to check out my images! It has very important facts that will help you make the right comments.”

Using her platform to challenge long-held societal expectations, Upasana posed bold questions many women hesitate to voice:
“Is it wrong for a woman to marry for love? Is it wrong for her to wait until she finds the right partner?” she asked, further questioning whether women should be judged for planning children according to their personal or professional circumstances.

Sharing her own journey, Upasana revealed, “I married for love and companionship at 27. At 29, I decided to freeze my eggs for personal and health reasons.”
She has consistently encouraged women to explore available options without shame or pressure. Upasana welcomed her first child at 36 and is now expecting twins at 39.

For her, career and marriage have always been complementary, not conflicting. “Throughout my journey, I have given equal importance to building my career and nurturing my marriage. A stable environment matters when raising a family,” she wrote. “Marriage and career are equally meaningful to me but I decide the timeline. That’s not privilege; it’s my right!”

Her recent comments follow a viral speech at a Hyderabad event, where she highlighted the benefits of egg freezing. “The biggest insurance for women is to freeze their eggs,” Upasana said in a video she later shared. “It allows women to choose when to get married and when to have kids on their own terms when they are financially independent.”

Upasana and Ram Charan married in 2012. After focusing on their careers, the couple welcomed their daughter in 2023. They recently announced they are expecting twins, sharing the news during Diwali celebrations this year.
