US Clears $47.1 Million Sale of Javelin Missiles, Excalibur Shells to India

Washington clears precision-strike weapons package aimed at boosting India’s frontline combat capability.

US, Nov 20: The United States has approved the sale of FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems and M982A1 Excalibur precision guided artillery projectiles to India, a defence package valued at USD 47.1 million.
According to a statement from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the U.S. State Department has formally cleared the possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS), and the required certification has been sent to Congress. The approved package includes the weapons, associated equipment, and logistical support.
The DSCA noted that the proposed sale aligns with U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening its strategic partnership with India. It said India remains a key force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia.
Officials said the weapons package will enhance India’s ability to counter current and emerging threats by improving precision-strike capability at the brigade level. India is fully capable of integrating the systems into its armed forces.
The principal contractor for the deal will be RTX Corporation, based in Arlington, Virginia. No offset agreements have been proposed so far, though any future offsets will be negotiated directly between India and the contractor.
The DSCA added that the sale will not affect the regional military balance, nor will it require additional U.S. government or contractor personnel to be deployed to India. Final cost and quantities may vary depending on budget approvals and eventual contract negotiations.
