World Environment Day Celebration: Plantation Drive at GDC Billawar

06-06-2023 : World Environment Day was celebrated at GDC Billawar with great enthusiasm. In this connection, various activities were conducted under the patronage of Dr. Alka Sharma, Principal GDC Billawar.  On 5th June, 2023, Department of Botany along with the NCC Unit of GDC Billawar in collaboration with 7th Battalion.

The Sikh Light Infantry conducted a plantation drive in which native medicinal, fruit-bearing, and timber-yielding plants and trees like Arjuna Amla, and guava were planted in the college campus. The activity was conducted under the overall supervision of Prof. Yash Paul, Head, Department of Botany, and Dr. Suram Singh, NCC caretaker. The program was attended by Prof. Lekh Raj, Dr. Arun Sharma, Prof. Raman Kumar, Dr. Manu Sharma, and Prof. Sunita. In succession, On 6th June, the Department of Botany, GDC Billawar in Collaboration with Paryavaran Sarankshan Samiti Billawar celebrated World Environment Day on the theme “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”

The event began with the plantation of Chinar tree by the worthy Principal, GDC Billawar proceeded with extension lectures by eminent speakers Shanker Das (Retd. Distt. Agricultural Officer), and Vikas Sharma (AEA). The students of GDC Billawar also actively participated in the event. The students namely Harshita Thakur, Tanvi, Nazia Akhter, Simran Sharma, and Monika Devi made posters on the said theme.

The program was conducted by Prof. Yash Paul, Head, Department of Botany. During the program short video clips were also shown to the students regarding taking small initiatives to save the environment and also to minimize the use of plastic in daily lives. The other attendees in the program who graced the occasion were Anil Gupta (AEA), Prof. Lekh Raj, Prof. Raman, Dr. Shiv Khajuria, Dr. Manu, and Prof. Sunita.
