5 J&K BN NCC, Poonch conducts cleanliness drive at Ecological Park, Gurudwara Nangali Sahib

 JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 03: A “ Swachhata Abhiyaan” for cleaning of water bodies (local water pts / natural Spring) was organized at Nangali Ecological Park and Gurudawara, Poonch by cadets of 5 J&K BN NCC  as part of ongoing “Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan”.

 Around 220 NCC cadets of different institutions of Poonch participated in this Swachhata Abhiyaan. The event also witnessed the participation of Local NGOs involved in social service in the area.

 Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan is being organized as PAN INDIA movement for cleaning of water bodies (Non-biodegradable plastic waste), generate awareness among youth & public on the preservation & maintenance of Beaches in coastal area, and Water bodies like Ponds, Bawalis, Reservoir and Rivers in hinterland. NCC cadets are rendering their services as part of their social obligation to the society i.e. SSCD activities.

 The event included cleaning of 01 local water bodies (Bawalis) and surrounding areas of the premises at Nangali Sahib Ecological Park and Gurudawara. The site for this drive was selected due to its close proximity to Durangi Nala (Water body) and the site is visited by large nu of devotees being a Gurudawara. 220 cadets of 5 Bn NCC Poonch actively participated in this symbolic cleaning drive. The event began with a Road show using Placards & Banners on importance of water conservation and cleaning of water bodies. The road show was aimed at spreading the message to larger segment of the society on the need to conserve, clean & maintain our natural sources (reservoirs) of water.

After the Rd show, CO 5 Bn NCC gave a lecture to the cadets (gathering) on the importance of this symbolic drive and the message to the society and community at large on conservation and cleanliness of our natural sources of water (Rivers, Pond, springs, Reservoirs and beaches. The campaign also brought out the importance of Recycling of Plastic waste, which was being utilized in Constr of Roads and power industry and the role of NGOs in this campaign. The importance of Swachhata and conservation cannot be overlooked. It has to be part of our conscious daily activities. The campaign ended with a pledge by cadets to minimize use of plastic and keep our surroundings free of Plastic waste. The unit plans to undertake similar exercises in near future.

 The event witnessed the participation of members of civil society, members of Gurudawara committee and Local NGOs i.e. Samaj Sewa Society and Sir Syed Edn Mission include assistance by Municipality of Poonch in terms of Garbage collection Vehicles and Eqpt for cleaning. All cadets and staff were served with refreshment after the event.
