Srinagar, 07-12-2024: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hamid Karra, once again underscored the party’s unwavering demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that it is vital not only for the region but for the entire nation. Speaking on Saturday, Karra reiterated that the Congress has been steadfast in raising this issue across various parts of the region, including Jammu and Rajouri, stressing its importance to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The demand for statehood, Karra pointed out, has been a central concern for the Congress party ever since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019. He argued that the restoration of statehood is not just a local issue but a matter of national interest. Karra expressed his disappointment at the Central Government’s reluctance to take meaningful action on this front, questioning the delay by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the government in addressing this vital issue.
“We have consistently raised this issue with the Prime Minister and Home Minister, reminding them of its urgency, but there has been no tangible progress,” Karra noted. Despite this, he affirmed that the Congress party will not relent in its push for the restoration of statehood, describing it as an essential step for the well-being, development, and political rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Karra emphasized that the Congress party’s commitment to this cause remains firm, stating, “We will continue to advocate for the restoration of statehood, and we will not back down.” The Congress party remains determined in its efforts to secure full political and constitutional rights for the region, a crucial step towards restoring its dignity and autonomy within the Indian Union.
