J&K Congress Reacts to Omar’s Mockery, Stresses ‘No Fight Against BJP Without Congress’
Congress Fires Back at Omar Abdullah After Delhi Poll Loss, Asserts Party’s Role in BJP-RSS Fight
Jammu, 08-02-2025: In the aftermath of the Congress party’s disappointing performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media, mocking the party for its failure. Within hours, Congress responded with a veiled but firm counterattack, cautioning opposition parties about attempting to challenge the formidable BJP-RSS combine without the inclusion of Congress.
While the Jammu and Kashmir Congress refrained from directly targeting its coalition partner, the National Conference, the party made it clear that any viable opposition to the BJP would require Congress’s strength and leadership. “The fight against the BJP-RSS combine is impossible without Congress,” said Ravinder Sharma, the chief spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Congress (JKPCC), in response to the results of the Delhi Assembly elections.
Sharma, while criticizing the Delhi AAP government for failing to deliver on its promises, also emphasized that AAP’s overconfidence and decision to go solo in the elections led to its downfall. He pointed out that AAP’s inability to form a united front against the BJP was a crucial factor in their loss. “This should serve as a lesson for those who believe they can single-handedly take on the BJP-RSS or indulge in opportunistic alliances,” Sharma added, a remark widely interpreted as a subtle yet pointed critique of Omar Abdullah and the National Conference.
Sharma went on to claim that the BJP’s victory was more of a proxy result due to AAP’s internal strife. He further stressed that, particularly in today’s political climate, no substantial fight against the BJP could succeed without Congress. “The politics of opportunism, deceit, and over-ambition, as seen in AAP’s approach, led to their defeat and indirectly helped the BJP secure its dominance. With control over key institutions like the ED, CBI, IT, and other law enforcement agencies, BJP’s grip on power is undeniable,” Sharma added.
Despite the party’s loss, Sharma remained optimistic about Congress’s future, highlighting the increased vote share in Delhi as evidence of the party’s re-emergence as a formidable political force. “Although the results were not as expected, Congress will continue to stand strong along with like-minded secular forces. Our consistency in policy and commitment to the people will ensure our rise as a stronger entity in the future,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, not one to miss an opportunity for a political jab, mocked Congress for its inability to secure even a single seat in the Delhi Assembly for the third consecutive election. As the votes were counted, Omar Abdullah took to his social media platform, X, to share a sarcastic comment, accusing opposition parties of squabbling among themselves. “Aur Lado Aapas Mein” (Keep fighting among yourselves!), he remarked, referring to the Congress-AAP rivalry.
Notably, despite its underwhelming performance, Congress’s participation in the Delhi elections is thought to have played a role in dividing the anti-BJP vote, thereby weakening AAP’s position. As members of the INDIA alliance, including Mamata Banerjee’s TMC and Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, aligned themselves with AAP, Congress stood firm in its decision to contest independently, even though it didn’t win any seats.
As the dust settles on Delhi’s election results, the verbal sparring between Omar Abdullah and Congress serves as a reminder of the political intricacies and alliances that continue to shape the opposition landscape in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond. With the next electoral battles looming on the horizon, the Congress party remains resolute in its belief that its role is indispensable in any fight against the BJP-RSS juggernaut.
