Nursing Students in J&K Stage Protest, Demand Monthly Stipend

Jammu, 15-09-2025: In Jammu today, scores of nursing students staged a protest demonstration near the Press Club demanding sanction of monthly stipends for those enrolled in Government Nursing Colleges across the Union Territory. Holding placards and raising slogans, the students accused the administration of ignoring their repeated appeals despite giving verbal assurances. They pointed out that nursing students in many other states and union territories receive stipends and financial assistance, whereas those in J&K have been left out, terming it as “step-motherly treatment.”

The agitating students said it was deeply disheartening that those who form the backbone of the healthcare system are denied financial support. “While our counterparts elsewhere are being supported by government aid, we continue to struggle without basic assistance. We appeal to the Health Minister to intervene and resolve this issue urgently,” said one protester.

The students further highlighted that they had already submitted multiple representations to the Health Minister, Secretary Health, and Director Finance but nothing concrete has materialized. They urged the administration to treat their demand with priority, ensuring that thousands of nursing students aspiring to serve society through the health sector can continue their education with dignity and without unnecessary financial stress.
