Jammu & Kashmir, 2G Mobile Internet Services Restored in Doda

Residents urge restoration of 4G as 2G internet proves insufficient for essential online services

Doda/Jammu, Sep 16: Authorities restored 2G mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday, a week after they were suspended following protests over the PSA detention of sitting AAP MLA Mehraj Malik on September 8. Life in the district is gradually returning to normal, with broadband services already reinstated and most restrictions lifted under Section 163 BNSS. Schools reopened on Monday after a three-week closure.

While the restoration of 2G connectivity has been welcomed by residents, many reported difficulties in accessing online banking, government services, and other digital platforms due to the low-speed network. Feroz Ahmad, a local resident, said, “2G is insufficient for essential services such as mobile banking and online shopping. The government should restore 4G services immediately to provide proper relief to the people.”

Authorities warned against the circulation of provocative content on social media. Doda Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Mehta assured gradual easing of restrictions, emphasizing strict action against users sharing fake news or videos intended to disturb public peace.

Malik, president of AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8 for allegedly disturbing public order, triggering violent protests and subsequent imposition of restrictions, including suspension of mobile internet and broadband services.
