P.V. Sindhu Cruises Into China Masters Quarterfinals With Straight Game Win

Indian star defeats Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-15, 21-15 and eyes clash against An Se Young or Mia Blichfeldt.

Shenzhen (China), Sep 18: Star Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals of the China Masters badminton tournament with a commanding straight-game win over sixth seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand on Thursday.

Sindhu, a double Olympic medallist, took just 41 minutes to defeat the Thai shuttler 21-15, 21-15, improving her head-to-head record against Chochuwong to 6-5.

In the quarterfinals, Sindhu will face the winner of the match between top seed An Se Young of Korea and Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt.

Speaking after the match, Sindhu said, “I am happy with the win. It was important to stay alert and give my 100 per cent. Every point counts, and finishing in straight games boosts confidence.” She also emphasized the challenges of playing under strong air-conditioning drift, highlighting the importance of controlling shots.

Sindhu is currently training with Indian women’s singles coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama and said the partnership is yielding positive results.

Later on Thursday, the eight-seeded Indian men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, will face Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin in the round of 16.
