PM Modi Honors Late BJP Veteran Vijay Kumar Malhotra

Senior BJP leaders join Prime Minister in offering last respects to Delhi stalwart

New Delhi, Sept 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid his last respects to senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who passed away at the age of 93. Born in December 1931 in Lahore, Malhotra’s mortal remains were initially placed at his residence, where PM Modi arrived to offer condolences. They will later be moved to the Delhi BJP office for public homage.

BJP national chief J.P. Nadda, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and several senior party leaders were present during the tribute. Earlier, PM Modi expressed grief over Malhotra’s demise, describing him as an “outstanding leader” with a deep understanding of public issues. In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote:

“Shri Vijay Kumar Malhotra Ji distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, who had a very good understanding of people’s issues. He played a vital role in strengthening our party in Delhi. He is also remembered for his Parliamentary interventions. Pained by his passing away. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

Malhotra had an illustrious political career, serving five terms as MP and two terms as MLA from Delhi. He was President of the Delhi Pradesh Jana Sangh (1972-75) and twice headed the BJP Delhi Pradesh (1977-80, 1980-84). Notably, he was the only BJP candidate to win a seat in Delhi during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi BJP credited Malhotra for sustaining the party’s presence in the capital for decades, alongside leaders like Kedar Nath Sahni and Madan Lal Khurana. One of his most celebrated political victories was defeating former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the 1999 general election. Over 45 years of dedicated service in Delhi, Malhotra became one of the most senior and respected figures of the BJP in the region.
