Israel Greenlights Ceasefire with Hamas to Secure Hostage Release in Gaza

Historic agreement ends two-year conflict as US troops prepare to oversee implementation and facilitate humanitarian aid.

Israel, Oct 10 : The Israeli government on Friday ratified a ceasefire deal with Hamas, signaling the end of hostilities in Gaza within the next 24 hours. The historic agreement also includes the release of Israeli hostages within three days, part of a broader plan mediated under US President Donald Trump’s peace initiative.

The cabinet approved the framework early Friday, following mediators’ announcement of the deal on Thursday. Under the agreement, Israel will release Palestinian prisoners and gradually withdraw troops from Gaza, formally concluding a two-year war that drew international attention.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:

“The government has just now approved the framework for the release of all of the hostages   the living and the deceased.”

The ceasefire, announced by Trump on Truth Social, also includes a hostage-prisoner exchange, expected to free around 20 Israeli hostages still alive and return the remains of others who perished during the conflict.

To support the ceasefire, the United States is deploying about 200 troops to Israel. A senior US official stated the task force’s role is to “oversee, observe, and ensure there are no violations” of the agreement.

The US troops, which may begin deployment immediately, will remain in Israel and provide support in logistics, transportation, engineering, and planning, without entering Gaza. Their mission includes facilitating humanitarian aid delivery and managing the deconfliction mechanism, ensuring both parties adhere to the ceasefire terms.

The Israel-Hamas ceasefire 2025 marks a significant step toward peace in the region, following a brutal two-year conflict that caused widespread devastation and international concern.
