‘Roi Roi Binale’ Creates History: Zubeen Garg’s Final Film Sold Out Ahead of Release

Emotional fans across Assam celebrate the legendary singer’s last cinematic appearance as tickets vanish within days; State govt pledges GST share to Zubeen’s artist foundation

Assam, Oct 31 : Theatres across Assam are witnessing an outpouring of emotion and excitement as ‘Roi Roi Binale’, the final Assamese film of the late music legend and actor Zubeen Garg, released on October 31. The film, hailed as the artist’s dream project, has already made history even before reaching the big screen  tickets for the first week sold out within two days of booking.

From Guwahati to Nagaon, Rangia, and Dibrugarh, every show is packed, with fans rushing to grab tickets as if attending one final concert by the icon they grew up with. For Assam, this release is more than cinema it’s a heartfelt farewell.

Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, had called ‘Roi Roi Binale’ his “dream project.” The film  a musical drama  reflects his lifelong devotion to music and storytelling. The trailer alone brought fans to tears, particularly a poignant scene of Zubeen by the ocean, asking how vast the sea is a moment many now see as an unintended final goodbye.

Across the state, conversations about the film echo everywhere in homes, markets, tea stalls, and colleges. The atmosphere is charged with both celebration and grief, as Assam collectively honours the man whose music defined its spirit.

In a special tribute, the Assam government announced that its share of GST revenue from the film will go to the Kalaguru Artist Foundation, an initiative founded by Zubeen to support struggling artists. Since Assam does not levy entertainment tax, ‘Roi Roi Binale’ has effectively been made tax-free.

Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, expressed gratitude to the people of Assam, saying she has not yet been able to watch the film herself. “This was Zubeen’s dream, his last gift to people,” she said. “We are bringing it to audiences the way he wanted.”

Film trade experts believe ‘Roi Roi Binale’ could become a landmark in Assamese cinema, not just for its emotional significance but for setting new box office records.

On release day, cinema halls lit up across the state. Music filled the air. And in every heart, Zubeen Garg’s voice lives on — one last time.
