UP govt announces 1% recovery rebate for rice mills on nonhybrid paddy threshing
Yogi Adityanath’s new policy to benefit over 1.5 million farmers, 2,000 rice mills; aims to boost rural economy and employment
UP, Nov 4 : The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a 1% recovery rebate for rice mills on the threshing of non-hybrid paddy a move expected to benefit more than 1.5 million farmers and over 2,000 rice mills across the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the rebate aims to strengthen the agricultural supply chain, promote fair competition among millers, and enhance income opportunities for farmers. The initiative comes as part of a broader effort to make Uttar Pradesh self sufficient in foodgrain production and processing.
Under the new policy, the state government has allocated ₹167 crore as reimbursement to support rice millers and expedite paddy procurement. Officials said this move would encourage timely payments to farmers and boost investment in agro industries.
The government already provides a 3% recovery rebate on hybrid rice threshing. The new 1% concession on non-hybrid varieties will create a level playing field and promote balance within the rice industry.
According to official estimates, the initiative will help generate around 2 lakh employment opportunities and increase the production capacity of rice mills across Uttar Pradesh. “This rebate will bring transparency to procurement, ensure faster farmer payments, and strengthen rural livelihoods,” the Chief Minister said.
The policy is also expected to reduce the state’s dependence on rice imports for the Public Distribution System (PDS), leading to significant national savings. With this step, Uttar Pradesh aims to enhance food security while stimulating growth in its agriculture-driven economy.
