RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Set for First Manipur Visit After 2023 Ethnic Violence
RSS chief to hold meetings with citizens, entrepreneurs and tribal leaders during three-day tour
Imphal, Nov 19: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to arrive in Manipur on November 20, marking his first visit to the state since ethnic violence erupted two years ago, an RSS functionary said on Wednesday.
During his three day stay, Bhagwat will interact with citizens, entrepreneurs, youth leaders and representatives of the tribal community, RSS state general secretary Tarunkumar Sharma said.
“Our Sarsanghchalak’s visit is part of the RSS centenary celebrations. He will arrive from Guwahati on November 20 and depart on November 22,” he added.
Another RSS functionary confirmed that this is Bhagwat’s first visit to Manipur since the 2023 ethnic clashes. He had last visited the state in 2022.
As per the itinerary, separate interactive sessions will be organised with prominent citizens, Janajati (tribal) leaders and youth groups. On the day of his arrival, Bhagwat will meet entrepreneurs and eminent individuals at a programme in Konjeng Leikai, Imphal.
On November 21, he is scheduled to interact with tribal leaders from the hill districts.
When asked whether the RSS chief would visit relief camps housing internally displaced people, Sharma said, “This is not in the schedule as of now. The visit is mostly an internal organisational programme.”
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands displaced in ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023.
The Centre imposed President’s Rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned, placing the state assembly whose tenure runs till 2027 under suspended animation.
