Cold Wave Tightens Grip in Valley; Konibal Records Season’s Lowest Temperature

Kashmir Records Season’s Harshest Night as Mercury Plunges Below Freezing Across Valley

Srinagar, Nov 27: A severe cold wave has tightened its grip on Kashmir, with all weather stations across the Valley recording sub-zero minimum temperatures, according to the Meteorological Department on Thursday.

Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season so far as temperatures dipped to –4.4°C, dropping further from the previous night’s –3.9°C and staying 4 degrees below normal. The city has been experiencing a steady decline in night temperatures over the past several days.

The coldest temperature in the Valley was recorded in Konibal, Pulwama, where the mercury plummeted to –5.5°C, the lowest minimum temperature recorded this season.

In other parts of the Valley, Kokernag registered –1.6°C, while the tourist hotspot Pahalgam recorded –5°C. Gulmarg, another popular winter destination, logged a minimum of –1°C.
Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded –4°C, and Kupwara in the north also settled at –4.4°C.

The Met department has predicted mainly dry weather till December 2, with a likelihood of night temperatures dipping even further in the coming days.
