‘Don’t Do Drama, Deliver’: PM Modi Urges MPs as Winter Session Begins

Prime Minister urges constructive debate as government pushes major reform bills; Opposition demands discussion on electoral roll revision, internal security, and pollution.

New Delhi, Dec 01 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday set the tone for the Winter Session of Parliament with a pointed appeal to MPs across party lines: focus on “delivery, not drama.”

Addressing the media at Hans Dwar ahead of the 15-day session, PM Modi said India had “proven that democracy can deliver,” citing the high voter turnout especially among women in the recent Bihar elections as a testament to public faith in democratic institutions.

“Don’t be frazzled by the outcome of recent election results. Don’t do drama in Parliament, but deliver,” he said, urging the Opposition to engage in constructive debate rather than procedural disruptions. He also cautioned members of the ruling alliance against allowing electoral victories to breed arrogance.

The government is preparing for an aggressive legislative agenda aimed at accelerating economic reforms. Ten key bills are listed for introduction and passage, including the Atomic Energy Bill, 2025 and the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The Opposition, however, is gearing up for a confrontation on several sensitive issues. Their top demand is an urgent and thorough debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with leaders warning that proceedings could be derailed if this demand is denied.

Other issues expected to dominate the session include national security concerns following the November 10 Delhi terror blast and worsening air pollution levels in the capital region.

Opposition leaders reiterated that they may be compelled to stall proceedings if the government refuses discussion on the revision of electoral rolls.
