AIADMK–BJP Alliance to Unveil CMP, Will Capture Power in Tamil Nadu: Nainar Nagenthran

Tamil Nadu BJP chief dismisses DMK led INDIA bloc unity, expresses confidence of NDA victory

Tamil Nadu, Dec 29 : The NDA in Tamil Nadu, comprising the AIADMK and the BJP, will contest the 2026 Assembly elections on the basis of a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and go on to form the government, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran said on Sunday.

Addressing the media in Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Nagenthran said the AIADMK–BJP alliance would be the first political combine in the state to fight an election on a CMP, noting that neither the ruling DMK nor the principal opposition AIADMK had ever contested polls with such a framework or agreed to a coalition government in the past.

“The AIADMK–BJP alliance will come out with a Common Minimum Programme and the combine will sweep the 2026 Assembly elections,” he said, expressing confidence that the NDA would defeat the DMK-led INDIA bloc.

Dismissing claims of strong cohesion within the INDIA bloc, Nagenthran described the unity of the DMK-led alliance as a “myth”. He alleged that internal differences had begun to surface, pointing out that the Congress had been demanding a share in power, while the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) had recently turned critical of the DMK government led by Chief Minister M K Stalin.

“There are clear rumblings within the alliance. Cracks have developed in the DMK-led front,” he claimed.

Responding to criticism from the DMK and its allies that the BJP would eventually marginalise the AIADMK   as alleged in other states  Nagenthran rejected the charge outright. “They need not worry. That will never happen,” he said.

On AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran’s remark that he could not be pressured into aligning with any party, Nagenthran said the BJP did not believe in intimidation or coercion. “We have not threatened anyone to join us. We are against targeting any individual — whether it is actor Vijay or anyone else,” he added.

At present, the NDA in Tamil Nadu consists of the AIADMK, the BJP and the Tamil Maanila Congress led by former Union Minister G K Vasan. The BJP is hopeful that the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), despite internal divisions, and the DMDK led by Premalatha Vijayakanth may also join the alliance ahead of the 2026 polls.
