Dalai Lama Attributes Grammy Victory to Collective Effort, Not Individual Success

Tibetan spiritual leader calls award a recognition of shared values rather than personal achievement

Dharamshala, Feb 2: The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, on Monday said his Grammy Award win reflects a shared responsibility for humanity rather than a personal accolade.

The spiritual leader won his first Grammy in the category of Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the 68th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. He prevailed over other nominees, including Kathy Garver (Elvis Rocky & Me: The Carol Connors Story), Trevor Noah (Into The Uncut Grass), Ketanji Brown Jackson (Lovely One: A Memoir), and Fab Morvan (You Know It’s True: The Real Story of Milli Vanilli).

Expressing gratitude and humility, the Dalai Lama said, “I receive this recognition with gratitude and humility. I do not see it as something personal, but as an acknowledgment of our shared universal responsibility.”

He further emphasized the importance of peace, compassion, environmental stewardship, and the understanding of humanity’s interconnectedness. “I firmly believe that these values are essential for the collective well-being of all eight billion human beings. I am grateful that this Grammy recognition can help spread these messages more widely,” he added.

The award highlights the Dalai Lama’s continued efforts to promote compassion and harmony on a global scale, reinforcing the message that achievements are meaningful when they serve humanity as a whole.
