Telangana CEO Urges Parties to Nominate BLAs for SIR Process
Preparatory work begins as officials stress booth level coordination to ensure accuracy and transparency in voter lists.
Hyderabad, Feb 06 : Preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Telangana have begun, with Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy on Thursday calling on recognised political parties to appoint at least one Booth Level Agent (BLA) for every polling station.
Speaking at a meeting with party representatives, Reddy highlighted that effective booth level coordination would be critical to maintaining accurate and transparent electoral rolls. He advised that BLAs should ideally be residents of the polling area and work closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to facilitate smooth verification and prompt resolution of discrepancies.
Emphasising the importance of representation at the grassroots, the CEO said each polling booth must have a designated BLA to support the revision process and help safeguard the inclusion of eligible voters.
Reddy noted that the revision exercise is already underway in 12 states, while the schedule for the remaining regions, including Telangana, is likely to be announced between April and May 2026. With the timeline expected to be tight once notified, advance groundwork has been initiated.
Officials have completed a table-top mapping exercise linking electors listed in the 2025 rolls with those recorded during the 2002 revision. This is being followed by field verification, with BLOs conducting house to house visits particularly in urban centres to confirm residences and identify voters.
During the revision, BLOs will carry out three to four rounds of visits in each polling area. Enumeration forms will be distributed during the initial round, while follow-up visits will cover households that were unavailable earlier. Authorities clarified that individuals not mapped during the preparatory stage will still have the opportunity to submit their details once the revision formally begins.
Reiterating the role of political parties, the CEO urged them to complete BLA appointments at the earliest, stating that active participation would enhance coordination, reduce grievances, and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls.
The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Vasam Venkateshwar Reddy, Deputy Chief Electoral Registration Officer Hari Singh, and other senior officials.
