Kanpur Lamborghini Crash: Tobacco Baron’s Son Shivam Mishra Arrested After Four-Day Manhunt
Arrest made from city hospital days after high-speed collision injured one; driver’s claim contradicts investigators
Kanpur, Feb 12: The Kanpur Police on Thursday arrested Shivam Mishra, accused of driving a Lamborghini that rammed into multiple vehicles earlier this week, leaving at least one person injured.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said Mishra was traced to a hospital in the city following coordinated efforts by five police teams. Investigators have concluded that he was behind the wheel when the crash occurred on VIP Road on February 8.
Mishra, a resident of Arya Nagar, is the son of tobacco entrepreneur KK Mishra, who had earlier maintained that his son was receiving medical treatment in Delhi.
The luxury vehicle allegedly struck an autorickshaw and a Bullet motorcycle before crashing into a pole near Jhula Park Crossing. Witnesses reported that the car appeared to be travelling at excessive speed at the time of the incident.
The arrest comes amid conflicting accounts about who was driving. Mishra’s driver, Mohan, recently submitted an affidavit claiming responsibility, stating that his employer suffered a seizure and fell onto him moments before the crash. Mishra’s lawyer argued that the injured party had accepted compensation and expressed no desire for further legal action.
Police, however, rejected the version, emphasising that CCTV footage and other evidence linked Mishra directly to the driver’s seat. Officials added that his name was incorporated into the FIR after the findings emerged during the probe.
A case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Mishra was produced before a court following his arrest.
