Rahul Gandhi Says He Grew Up in a Family Led by Strong Women

Congress leader tells Kerala students his grandmother led the family, praises women’s long-term vision and leadership

New Delhi, Mar 09 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he was raised in a household strongly influenced by women, recalling that his grandmother played the central leadership role in the family.

Speaking during a lunch interaction with students in Kerala, Gandhi reflected on his upbringing and the impact of female leadership in his life.

“I grew up in a family where women were the bosses. The boss of my family was my grandmother, and I have always been outnumbered by women at home, much like this table,” he said while addressing the students.

The Congress leader also shared his views on leadership qualities, suggesting that women often approach decisions with greater patience and long-term thinking. According to him, men frequently rush into decisions and get distracted by trivial matters, while women tend to focus on broader and more sustainable outcomes.

In a social media post following the interaction, Gandhi said he was inspired by the aspirations and confidence shown by the students. He noted that meaningful conversations like these highlight the transformative role women can play when they recognise their potential and move forward with an open and determined mindset.

He further emphasised that women bring balance to society through qualities such as empathy, emotional intelligence and understanding, which help guide communities toward thoughtful progress.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra marked the occasion of International Women’s Day with a message encouraging women to recognise their strength and continue striving for empowerment.
