IPL 2026: KKR’s 21-Year-Old Prodigy Smashes Explosive Century, Sends Warning to Rivals

Youngster’s match-winning knock intensifies competition as Kolkata fine-tune combinations before season opener

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders’ rising star Angkrish Raghuvanshi has thrown his hat firmly into contention for a starting spot with a sensational century in a pre-season intra squad clash at Eden Gardens.

Batting at No. 3, the 21 year old produced an unbeaten 103 off just 55 deliveries, showcasing aggressive stroke play with nine boundaries and five maximums. His commanding innings guided the side to a successful chase of 200, completed with four balls to spare.

The knock comes as a major boost for the KKR think tank, led by head coach Abhishek Nayar, as the franchise continues to assess combinations ahead of their IPL 2026 opener against Mumbai Indians on March 29.

With several new additions and multiple options in the top order, team management faces a complex task of finalising the playing XI. Overseas recruits including Cameron Green, Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra have added depth, but also increased competition for limited slots.

The absence of established openers has further opened the door for new partnerships, while the presence of all rounders and experienced campaigners adds another layer to the selection puzzle.

KKR, aiming to bounce back from a disappointing previous season, are focused on building momentum early. The team management believes current form and player readiness will play a decisive role in shaping the lineup rather than past performances.

With the tournament approaching, the franchise will look to strike the right balance between youth and experience as they seek a strong start to their campaign.
