FIFA hikes World Cup ticket prices, sparking fan concerns

New “front category” seats introduced as global football event across the United States, Canada and Mexico sees sharp rise in ticket costs

US, Apr 10 : Global football’s governing body has significantly raised ticket prices for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, introducing new premium tiers that have made entry to key matches more expensive than previously announced.

For the opening match involving the United States against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, top tier “front category 1” seats are now priced as high as $4,105 well above last week’s highest listed rate. Alongside this, an additional “front category 2” bracket has been quietly rolled out, with prices ranging between $1,940 and $2,330.

The tournament, scheduled from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities in North America, is witnessing a broader restructuring of ticket categories. While earlier definitions placed category 1 seats as the most premium lower-tier options, the newly introduced front categories suggest that some of the best seats were previously held back.

Price increases are not limited to opening fixtures. Canada’s first match in Toronto also features newly priced premium seats reaching $3,360. Meanwhile, knockout-stage games, including Round of 16 fixtures in Philadelphia, now include tickets priced at $905.

The most striking hike is for the final, set to take place at MetLife Stadium on July 19. The highest ticket tier has climbed to $10,990, up from earlier rates, while mid-range categories have also seen steep increases.

Despite the expanded pricing structure, availability appears limited, with no tickets listed for the final at the time of reporting. FIFA has yet to issue an official response regarding the pricing changes or the introduction of new ticket categories.
