Central University of Jammu Organised Thursday Mind Meet 

Jammu, 16 April 2026: The Central University of Jammu, Centre for Comparative Religion and Civilizations today organised Thursday Mind Meet on the theme “Importance of Folk Literature and Folk Traditions in Indian Culture” with special emphasis on the culture of Jammu and Kashmir. Director CCRC Prof. Niranjna Bhandari welcomed the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Sanjeev Jain, the Expert Mohan Singh Slathia, who is a Padmasri holder; Dean of Social Sciences Prof.A.K.Nanda, Dean of Languages; and the Convenor of Thursday Mind Meet Prof. Vandana Sharma.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Vandana Sharma said that the Thursday Mind Meet happens weekly in the University to explore the hidden talent of students. She further said that the event is completely organised and managed by the students only.

Padma Shri Sh. Mohan Singh Slathia, on the occasion explained the importance of folk culture and traditions of Jammu and Kashmir, and how Dogra culture has a variety of elements that enrich the Indian culture in its own way. Four panellists presented their views on the folk traditions and literature, including Ms Deewanshu Rathore’s understanding of the Rajasthan culture and the second panelist Ms. Rishita Manhas, explaining about the Jewellery as a cultural text: Decoding Symbolism in Dogra Ornaments. The third and fourth panelists, Mr. Ankit Kushwaha and Mr Rahul Kumar, presented about the Chhatt cultural dimension of Bihar and the Folk Cultural dimension of Haryana,respectively. Ms Heenam Bhagat managed the stage. Prof. Deepak Pathania, Prof. Richa Kothari, Dr Raj Thakur, Dr Farooq, Dr Neena Vij, Dr Arvind Rituraj, Dr Ashwani Kumar, Dr Amita Gupta and Dr G.V. Snigdha Raj graced the occasion.

Research Scholars Rohit Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Rishav Raj and students Aman Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Aditi Sharma, Progoti Chetana Bakshi Ojsive Sharma, Himanshi Jain, Sourav Kumar, Renu Bhagat. Students from different departments also attended the event.
