JAMMU, MAY 19: A team of the FCS&CA Department, headed by the Director Rajesh Kumar Shavan on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive inspection of flour mills at Gangyal- engaged in grinding wheat into Atta under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
The inspection was aimed at reviewing the grinding process, quality standards, hygiene and sanitation conditions, packaging, stock position and timely dispatch of Atta to the departmental stores for further distribution among the consumers. The Mills inspected included Upkar Flour Mill, Mahajan Flour Mill, Jammu Flour Mill, National Flour Mill and Bhagwati Flour Mill.
During the inspection, the Director emphasized the importance of maintaining prescribed quality parameters and ensuring transparency and efficiency in the supply chain so that quality food grains and Atta are made available to beneficiaries without any interruption. He also directed the concerned officials and mill operators for proper stacking of wheat and Atta, to take preventive measures for pest control, to strictly adhere to the guidelines and standards laid down by the Department. A random check of weight at Flour Mill, Upkar Flour Mill and Jammu Flour Mill, found some bags underweight for which the Director issued on spot instructions for improvement & warned for strict action in future. Meanwhile an action has been ordered against the Supervisor FCS&CA.
To ensure Protection of Consumer Affairs, the Director also inspected JK Oil Mill at Gangyal to see the quality control measures, packaging and labelling etc.
The Director inspected each section of the Mill. On random checking variations were found in the weight of packaged containers. The Director directed to convey the observations to the Legal Metrology Department for action & follow up.
The Director stressed upon the mill operator to maintain Hygiene, quality and standards in the production process to provide safe and quality edible oil products to consumers.
