Severe Flooding Across Southern China Forces Thousands From Homes

Heavy rainfall disrupts transport networks and triggers emergency rescue operations

BEIJING, May 22: Torrential rainfall and severe flooding across parts of southern China have forced thousands of residents to evacuate as authorities launched large scale rescue and relief operations.

Several provinces experienced overflowing rivers, submerged roads and landslides after days of relentless rainfall. Emergency teams were deployed to relocate stranded residents, restore damaged infrastructure and distribute food and medical supplies.

Chinese meteorological authorities warned that more heavy rain could hit flood-prone areas in the coming days, increasing the risk of further landslides and urban flooding.

Transport services including railways and highways were disrupted in multiple cities, while schools in affected regions remained closed as a precautionary measure.

Experts said climate change is contributing to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns across Asia, leading to stronger storms and extreme rainfall events.
