WHO Calls for Stronger Global Immunisation Efforts Amid Rising Vaccine-Preventable Diseases
Global health agency urges countries to close vaccination gaps as outbreaks of measles and other preventable illnesses continue to rise.
India, June 30 : The World Health Organization (WHO) has renewed its call for countries to strengthen routine immunisation programmes after reporting a continued rise in vaccine preventable diseases across multiple regions. Health officials stressed that disruptions to vaccination campaigns in recent years have left millions of children vulnerable to infections such as measles, diphtheria and polio.
WHO urged governments to invest in stronger primary healthcare systems, improve vaccine access in underserved communities and combat misinformation surrounding immunisation. The agency also highlighted the importance of maintaining high vaccination coverage to prevent future outbreaks and protect public health.
Experts noted that while many countries have restored immunisation services following the COVID-19 pandemic, significant gaps remain, particularly in low- and middle-income nations. Strengthening surveillance, community outreach and international cooperation will be critical to achieving global immunisation targets.
