7 Killed, 11 Injured as Private Bus Overturns on Mountain Road in Himachal Pradesh
Accident took place near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa route; police are working to establish the total number of passengers
Shimla, August 8: Seven passengers were killed and 11 others injured after a private bus overturned and plunged onto a lower road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning, police said.
The accident occurred around 7:15 am near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road in the Churah Valley. The bus was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba when it met with the accident.
The route is considered challenging because of its narrow stretches, sharp curves and steep mountain slopes. The 27-kilometre road is also an important route towards the high-altitude Sach Pass.
According to police, the bus overturned at the mountain curve before falling onto a road below. The impact resulted in multiple casualties and injuries among those travelling in the vehicle.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Vijay Saklani said the precise number of passengers travelling on the bus at the time of the incident has not yet been ascertained.
Rescue and relief operations were initiated following the accident, while the injured passengers were taken for medical treatment.
Authorities are gathering further information to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Details about the identities of those killed and injured are expected to be released as verification progresses.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with travelling on difficult mountain roads in the region, particularly along stretches characterised by sharp bends and steep drop-offs.
