India to Train 1 Crore Youth in AI Under New Technology Push

NEW DELHI, Aug 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a major artificial intelligence skilling initiative under which one crore young Indians will receive AI training over the coming year.
The announcement was made during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, where technology and innovation featured prominently in the government’s vision for a developed India. The programme is aimed at expanding access to emerging technology skills and preparing young people for an increasingly AI-driven economy.
The initiative comes amid rapid adoption of artificial intelligence across sectors such as information technology, manufacturing, healthcare, education and finance. The government is seeking to build a larger pool of skilled workers capable of using AI tools and contributing to technology-led growth.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of creating new employment opportunities through manufacturing, startups and emerging technology sectors. The focus on AI skills is expected to complement broader efforts to strengthen India’s digital and innovation ecosystem.
The announcement reflects India’s growing emphasis on developing domestic technological capabilities while ensuring that its large young population is equipped to participate in the changing nature of work.
