Jammu, November 19, 2022: Jammu and Kashmir Congress paid rich tributes to Smt. Indira Gandhi former Prime Minister of India, on her 105th   Birth Anniversary today, in which JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani presided.

Working President Raman Bhalla, Former Minister Mula Ram, Smt. Gurbachan Kumari Rana, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney, Ravinder Sharma, Th. Manmohan Singh, Rajnish Sharma,  Indu Pawar, Th. Hari Singh Chib, Seva Dal Chief Vijay Sharma, Chief Whip JMC Corporators Dwarka Choudhary, Ritu Choudhary, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Sanjeev Panda, Thomas Khokhar, Karan Bhagat, Narinder Gupta, Sahil Sharma, Satish Sharma, Amrit Bali, Sandeep Dogra were amongst those prominent who attended.

The main function was organized by the Dist. Congress Jammu Urban & Jammu Rural at the PCC HQ Jammu, while earlier Congress Seva Dal organized a simple function at Indira Chowk where the PCC President and Working President along with other senior leaders garlanded the statue of Smt. Indira Gandhi.

 Similar functions were held at several Dist. And Block Headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir by the respective Dis. And Block Units  to celebrate the day.

 PCC President Vikar Rasool Wani paid floral tributes to the iron lady and recalled the bold leadership of Smt. Indira Gandhi, as she led the nation to great heights in the World and took courageous decisions in her life for the might of the nation. The Country progressed on all fronts and faced numerous challenges successfully under her dynamic leadership, he said.

He lashed out at those forces who are trying to belittle the role and great works of top stalwarts of Congress especially  Nehru – Gandhi leadership for political vested interests. He said the present BJP regime is making every effort to distort the historical facts to divert the attention of the nation from the contribution of Congress and its great leaders.

He said that the entire World acknowledged the bold and dynamic leadership of Smt. Indira Gandhi who sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the nation and always worked for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. The Congress party and its leadership right from Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and till date always stood for unity in diversity and fought against the communal and divisive forces.

Shri Wani referred to the ongoing  Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress party being led by Shri Rahul Gandhi which is receiving tremendous response from the entire Country against the divisive policies and the failures of the Govt. to tackle large-scale unemployment, price rise, and economic distress  and appealed to the common people to join the Yatra when it reaches in  Jammu and Kashmir in  January.

Shri Raman Bhalla while addressing described Indira Ji as a leader of firm determination and great courage who took revolutionary steps during her prime ministership of the Country and sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the Country. She successfully handled foreign policy and remained the Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), leading the country to newer heights in the community of nations

He remembered her commitment to the principles of secularism and unity in diversity and remembered her steps to uplift the poor in the country. She was known for her bold decisions and she led the country to victory during the 1971 war, leading to the creation of Bangladesh and the surrender of over 90 thousand Pakistani troops before the Indian forces, ignoring the threats of United States.

 She brought into existence the historical ‘Shimla Agreement, which committed Pakistan for the settlement of all outstanding issues through bilateral dialogue. He regretted that the present Govt. has failed to give the honour which is deserved by Smt. Indira Gandhi was martyred as a sitting Prime Minister.

Shri Mula Ram While paying floral tributes described Smt. Indira Gandhi as a dynamic and visionary leader who remained committed to the secular and socialist ideals of the party and worked for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden in the country.

 She launched various programmes for the upliftment of the poor and the weaker sections of society. The country progressed on all fronts under her leadership. She firmly believed that secularism is the basic strength of our nation and fought against the communal forces in the country, she sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the country.

Shri Ravinder Sharma in his address recalled numerous achievements of Smt Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister and as President of the Congress party who always cared a lot for the workers of the party. Her decision to nationalize the banks and discontinue privy purses to the former rulers of Indian princely states were revolutionary steps amid an equitable distribution of resources.

Shri Yogesh Sawhney while paying tributes remembered the numerous contributions of Indira Gandhi to the nation and her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country. He cautioned the people to be vigilant against the activities of certain communal and sectarian forces who are out to distort our history and destroy our secular fabric for the sake of vote bank politics.

Shri Hari Singh Chib President Dist. Congress Committee Jammu Rural paid rich tributes to Smt. Gandhi recalled her contributions and bold steps for which the nation remembers her as an iron lady. He decried attempts to re-write history to distort the facts to mislead the people about the role of Congress stalwarts.

Several other prominent leaders of PCC, DCCs, Corporators, Frontal Heads, and Block Presidents while paying rich tributes recalled her role as a leader of international repute, who raised the esteem of the nation through her foresighted decisions and dynamic leadership. She always pursued policies to uplift the poor and marginalized population of the country.

 Prominent among those who spoke and attended include B.B.
