20-04-2023 : Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of radical Sikh leader Amritpal Singh, was reportedly stopped by the Punjab Police at Shri Guru Ram Dass International Airport in Amritsar as she tried to board her flight to London, according to police sources. Amritpal Singh, who is the head of Waris Punjab De, has been missing since March 18 when the Punjab Police conducted a raid on him and his organization, arresting several employees affiliated with the group, which was founded by the late Punjabi musician Deep Sidhu.
A senior police official confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that a Lookout Circular (LOC) had been issued against Kirandeep Kaur. She was denied entry into the airport as she arrived for her flight from Amritsar to London (Air India AI 169), scheduled to depart at 1:20 pm. She is currently being questioned by the police at the airport.
Kirandeep Kaur, who is an NRI from Punjab and had moved to the UK with her family as a child and was raised there, had relocated to Punjab after marrying Amritpal Singh in February of this year. She has been under constant police surveillance and inquiry, with the police accusing her of being involved in raising foreign donations for Waris Punjab De.
In interviews with news outlets, Kirandeep Kaur has described her relationship with Amritpal Singh, stating that they met on social media and portraying him as an ideal husband. Amritpal Singh has released several video messages to his followers from hiding, claiming that he has not absconded. There has been speculation that he would surrender around Baisakhi, a Sikh festival, but he has not yet surrendered. However, his aide and mentor Papalpreet Singh, as well as another close aide Joga Singh, have been arrested by the police. The situation surrounding Amritpal Singh and his organization Waris Punjab De remains fluid as the investigation continues.
