Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Condemns Modi Government’s Alleged Betrayal of Jammu and Kashmir: Deep Concerns Over Rising Terrorism and Targeted Killings
New Delhi, 26-12-2023 : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticized the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing it of a comprehensive “betrayal” of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Following a meeting with party leaders from J-K and Ladakh, Kharge expressed the Congress’s deep concern about the escalating incidents of terror attacks in Pir Panjal and the targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits in recent years.
On Tuesday, Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a meeting in the national capital with party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to strategize for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Kharge asserted that the Modi government, in its actions, has left no stone unturned in betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around the rising terror attacks in Pir Panjal and the targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits. Kharge highlighted the party’s concern and emphasized the need for addressing these issues. He expressed the party’s commitment to the welfare, development, and empowerment of the region.
Kharge also pointed out the post-Galwan clash scenario, stating that the national security and strategic interests have been endangered. While reaffirming that Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh are integral parts of India, he criticized PM Modi’s approach towards China post-Galwan, which he believes has put national security and strategic interests at risk.
Expressing hope for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Kharge said, “We hope to see full statehood restored to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh being made a state at the earliest.” He accused the Modi government of deceiving the people of Ladakh who are demanding safeguards for tribal people under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Kharge concluded by emphasizing the strong commitment of the opposition bloc, INDIA, to the welfare, development, and empowerment of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He cited the people’s desire for change and their support for Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra as evidence of the region’s aspirations to be heard and addressed.
