Jammu, Oct.4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a recent interview with a national news channel, reiterated that the law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir will remain firmly under the control of the LG Administration. He emphasized that the security forces have been given complete freedom to deal with any threats to the nation’s unity and integrity. Sinha firmly stated, “There will be no compromise on the security situation, and our security forces will deliver a befitting response to anyone attempting to challenge the unity and integrity of India.”
Reflecting on the recently concluded Assembly elections, Sinha highlighted the stark difference from the violence-plagued polls of 2014, where 29 people were killed and widespread unrest was reported. He pointed out that this time, the elections were conducted peacefully, without fear, and saw active participation from political parties and candidates, even with campaigning taking place in remote villages at late hours.
“The elections were free and fair, marked by peaceful proceedings and significant voter turnout, including in sensitive areas like Sopore, Baramulla, Shopian, and Pulwama. Over 63 percent of eligible voters cast their ballots, demonstrating their faith in the democratic process,” Sinha stated. He added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including those in the Valley, had sent a strong message to the world by participating wholeheartedly in the democratic process, further strengthening the region’s commitment to Indian democracy.
Sinha credited the successful conduct of the elections to the efforts of the Election Commission, the UT Administration, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He praised the historic turnout, noting that for the first time in 77 years, refugees from West Pakistan, Gorkhas, and the Valmiki Samaj were able to cast their votes in the Assembly elections.
Addressing Pakistan’s defense minister’s support for Congress’s stance on Article 370, Sinha dismissed it, reiterating that the decision to revoke the article was made by Parliament and subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. He underscored that Jammu and Kashmir had moved beyond Article 370 and was now focused on progress and development.
Sinha also reflected on the plight of people living in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), drawing attention to their lack of basic necessities like roads, power, and education. “If PoJK had been a part of India, they would have enjoyed the same development and prosperity as the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Sinha emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an unprecedentedly peaceful and democratic election, marking a new chapter in the region’s history and reaffirming its place within the broader Indian democratic framework.
