Rs 8,800 Crore Refunded to Sahara Depositors, Amit Shah Informs Lok Sabha

New Delhi — Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday informed Parliament that Rs 8,800 crore has been disbursed to over 40 lakh depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies as of February 2026.

Refund Process and Applications

According to Shah’s written reply to the Lok Sabha, 1.45 crore applications and 4.06 crore claims have been received on the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal. Payments are being made directly to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts of verified depositors, with each genuine depositor eligible to receive up to Rs 50,000 per verified claim.

Compliance with Supreme Court Orders

The refund process is being carried out in line with Supreme Court directives, ensuring transparent verification through proper identification and submission of deposit proof. Depositors with deficient applications have been asked to re-submit their forms to complete the verification process.

Additional Funds and Extended Timeline

The Supreme Court has directed an additional Rs 5,000 crore to be transferred from the Sahara-SEBI Refund Account to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies. The disbursement deadline for Sahara depositors has been extended to December 31, 2026 to ensure all eligible investors receive their refunds.
