Celebration of Lohri Festival organized by Dogra Group of Colleges

12-01-2023 : Dogra Group of colleges Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana, Jammu celebrated the first festival of the year, “Lohri” & Makar Sakranti today in the premises of Dogra Educational Complex. The celebrations started with formal welcome address presented by Akshita Mangotra, student of Dogra College of Education. Cultural programme was presented by students of Dogra Group of Colleges which included lohri folk song and other traditional songs. Speech on significance and relevance of lohri festival was delivered by Simran Chib, Student of BA LLB 5year 3rd Semester and Ms. Bhavya Abrol, student of Dogra Degree College.

The celebration marked Lohri Poojan by gathering around Traditional Bonfire and offering sweets, puffed rice, and popcorn into the holy fire along with chanting of mantras. Prasad was distributed among all.

Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, Former Minister & Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his presidential address, the Worthy Chairman highlighted the importance of festival and he also spoke about the hero of Punjab Dulla Bhatti. He also highlighted that Lohri ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter and that it is a festival fostering a healthy and happy society. This harvest festival marks both celebrations and sharing and promotes national and emotional integration.

The celebration was a collective effort by the Dogra Group of Colleges under the banner of Dogra Educational Trust. Prominent among those present were Prof. Darshana Sharma, Director Dogra Group of Colleges and Campus Development, Dr. Vikesh Kr. Sharma, Principal Dogra College of Education, Prof. V.P. Magotra, Principal Dogra Law College, the staff and students of all the three colleges.

A formal Vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Anshika Vaid, Student of Dogra Degree College who thanked all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion. Sweets were distributed after the programme. The programme was anchored by Ms Garghy, student of Dogra Law College. The event concluded with dance of staff and students on dhol beats.
