DGP Dilbag Singh Chairs High-Level Security Review Meeting for Incident-Free Amarnath Yatra
20-06-2023 : The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar in preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The meeting aimed to assess and enhance the security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Spl. DG CID Shri R. R Swain, ADsGP Shri S. J. M. Gillani, Shri M.K Sinha, Shri Vijay Kumar, IGP Hqrs/Traffic Shri B S Tuti, and various other officers from different wings and districts. ADGP Jammu Shri Mukesh Singh and DIsG Shri Sunil Gupta, Shri M Suleman Choudhary, and Shri Shakti Pathak also participated in the meeting virtually.
Addressing the gathering, the DGP emphasized the successful execution of previous important events and highlighted the significance of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. He instructed the officials to make optimal use of available resources and ensure the requirements of District Police units directly involved in the Yatra are met. The DGP stressed the importance of extra efforts to ensure an incident-free pilgrimage, directing the mobilization of manpower from different wings and districts.
The DGP further instructed the officers to adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and emphasized the accountability of each team head deployed for the Yatra. He encouraged officers to submit any additional requirements, assuring them of prompt provision. The DGP also emphasized the deployment of assistance teams equipped with necessary tools at base camps and other crucial locations to assist and support the pilgrims.
In terms of security arrangements, the DGP directed the strengthening of communication networks and placement of security measures at base camps. He highlighted the need for effective traffic management on the national highway and other roads, as well as proper parking of vehicles and deployment of forces along both Yatra routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. The DGP stressed the importance of exemplary conduct by the deployed personnel, who have the dual responsibility of facilitating the pilgrimage and ensuring safety and security.
Modern security gadgets and technology, such as CCTVs and drones, were encouraged to be utilized to enhance security at important Yatra locations and along the route. Special attention was given to sensitive areas, including dhabas (roadside eateries), langars (community kitchens), and parking places. The DGP instructed the deployment of quick response teams to provide immediate assistance to the pilgrims.
To facilitate communication and assistance, the DGP directed the establishment of special helplines for the pilgrims. He emphasized that helpline numbers of Police Control Rooms (PCRs), District Police officers, including SDPOs and SHOs, should be widely publicized through various mediums. The DGP also stressed the importance of conducting mock drills and dry runs of different contingency plans, including convoy movements, well in advance of the Yatra under the supervision of senior officers.
The ADGPs of Jammu and Kashmir apprised the DGP about the security arrangements and manpower deployment in their respective zones to ensure a peaceful Yatra. ADGP Kashmir presented a detailed overview of the security arrangements on both routes leading to the Holy Cave. The Range DsIG and District SSsP directly involved with the Yatra briefed the DGP about the security arrangements specific to their areas.
With this comprehensive security review meeting, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are demonstrating their commitment to ensuring a safe and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, safeguarding the pilgrims’ well-being throughout their spiritual journey.
