Dr. Farooq urges youth to join global Red Cross legacy; recalls Begum Akbar Jehan’s pioneering role

Srinagar, 08 May: On the occasion of World Red Cross Day, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah paid glowing tributes to the global humanitarian movement, emphasizing its indispensable role as a first-line responder during disasters.
Highlighting the organization’s commitment to the poor and destitute, Dr. Farooq recalled the profound historical connection his mother Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah shares with the cause. He honored the legacy of his mother, Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, Madar-e-Meharban who served as the first President of the J&K Red Cross Society from 1947 to 1957, laying the foundation for organized humanitarian aid in the region.“The Red Cross is more than an organization; it is a beacon of hope for those in distress,” Dr. Farooq stated.
“Its volunteers embody the spirit of compassion, working tirelessly in the face of emergencies to save lives and alleviate suffering.”In a passionate call to action, Dr. Farooq urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to proactively join volunteer services. He stressed that the energy and dedication of the younger generation are vital to strengthening the humanitarian fabric of society and assisting the ailing and marginalized.
