BASOHLI, June 1: A general body meeting of Ex-Servicemen Association Basohli was held at Marta Nagrota today. The meeting was chaired by DDC Chairman, Col Mahan Singh (Retd) in which Capt Des Raj, Capt Harnam, Capt Yubkaran Singh, Capt Kishori Lal, Capt Nake Ram and other Ex-servicemen members of the association participated.
The Association unanimously decided to build Memorials of Shaheed Mast Ram, a martyr of 1965 Indo-Pak War at Village Mandla in Basohli Rural Panchayat. Martyr Mast Ram had made supreme sacrifice in a fierce battle fought in Chhamb Sector.
The second memorial is being built at Dhar Mahanpur in the memory of legendry late Major Durga Dass Kanaria. An Army veteran of 1962 Indo-China and 1965 Indo-Pak wars and renowned social reformer of yesteryear’s.
Speaking on the occasion, Col Mahan applauded the sacrifices made by hundreds of soldiers hailing from District Kathua in various battles fought on the mainland and abroad. He said the youth of the areas are hard core patriotic and serving the motherland in uniform has always been their first choice.
The Association also decided to register itself as a body and involve itself in social and progressive activities in the future.
The DDC Chairman appealed to the veterans to make substantial contributions to society and use their rich experience for the well being of the public.
The association appreciated the good work being done by Col Mahan Singh (Retd) as DDC Chairman Kathua and expressed its continuous support to army veterans for serving the public.
